“I am confident that you received good training and are now ready for your mission in Afghanistan”, said Brigadier General Ladislav Jung, the Joint Force Training Centre Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff closing the second 2019 Resolute Support training event. The event took place between 8 and 19 April.

Altogether, more than 250 soldier and civilian experts gathered at JFTC to participate in or to support another pre-deployment training event for the allied mission in Afghanistan. During the event the future staff members of the Resolute Support Headquarters in Kabul and the Train, Advise, Assist Command West in Herat as well as advisors heading for various regions and institutions in Afghanistan received their final preparations before the deployment.

The training consisted of both theory and practice. The first days of the event were filled with lectures, panel discussions on key aspects of the mission, operational environment, political, cultural and social situation in Afghanistan. The second week focused on interactions with future counterparts, exercises with interpreters and other practical exercises that verified soldiers’ readiness for the mission.

The participants took advantage of JFTC’s vast experience in pre-deployment training, built throughout the past 15 years. They trained in a very realistic environment, tailored to their needs and were supported by JFTC members, representatives of various NATO units and agencies, but most of all, by soldiers with relevant theatre experience, who provided the up-to-date knowledge and information on the mission. All this aimed at preparing future Resolute Support members to quickly adapt to their duties once they arrive into Afghanistan.

Throughout the whole event, the trainees had an opportunity to meet with many Generals, who arrived in Bydgoszcz to share their knowledge and experience. The participants met with Major General Antonio Bettelli, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, Brigadier General Franceso Bruno, former Commander of the Train Advise Assist Command – West, Air Commodore Dean Andrew, the Deputy Commander NATO Air Command Afghanistan, Headquarters Resolute Support and Brigadier General Behrin Yalçin, Chief of Staff Deputy Chief of Staff Security Assistance, Headquarters Resolute Support. Two Afghan Generals, Brigadier General Sultan Mahmood Barai from Afghan Ministry of Defence and Brigadier General Zikria Bakhtyar representing Afghan Ministry of Interior, provided the participants with key information on Afghan National Defence Security Forces structure and perspective. Additionally, Brigadier General Giovanni Parmiggiani, the designated Commander of the Train Advise Assist Command – West, supported his future staff throughout the whole event.

Now the Joint Force Training Centre is getting ready for another pre-deployment training. In May, the Centre will execute the first iteration of training for the NATO Mission in Iraq.
