The Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC) launched its first training event in 2018. On 23 January, Major General Wilhelm Grün, the JFTC Commander, opened another edition of the pre-deployment training for future members of the Resolute Support mission. This time, the centre’s flagship event gathered more than 200 soldiers getting ready for their assignment in Afghanistan. On their way to proficiency, they are supported by more than 150 subject matter experts, trainers and assisting staff.

“We will do everything within our capacity to provide you with the best possible preparation before your deployment (...) Take full advantage of JFTC facilities, experience and our close connection with the theatre.” – said General Grün in his welcome words to the training audience.

During the event, future advisors as well as members of the Resolute Support Headquarters in Kabul and the Train Advise Assist Command-North in Mazar-e-Sharif, will receive high-quality training consisting of both theoretical and practical parts. Already on the first days of the training, the soldiers were provided with in-depth information on key aspects of the mission, operational environment, political, cultural and social situation in Afghanistan. In a recorded welcome message to the participants, General Salvatore Farina, the Commander of the Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), passed the most important facts and figures related to the mission, stressing the rapidly changing environment in Afghanistan. He also emphasized the need for continuity of effort and encouraged the soldiers to think about their future assignment in a long-term perspective.

The Training Audience received a lot of key information about the mission and situation in Afghanistan also during a video teleconference with Lieutenant General Johann Langenegger, the Chief of Staff at the Resolute Support Headquarters, as well as during lectures by Major General S. Abdul Karim Shah Afzali from the Afghan National Army Ministry of Defence, and Brigadier General Jawid Bishishty, from the Afghan Ministry of Interior.

During the event, the trainees will also focus on respective positions, roles and responsibilities they will assume upon deployment. All this will be done in a very realistic training environment and in assistance of highly qualified specialists.

Resolute Support Training Event 18-1, designed and delivered by JFTC, has been prepared in close coordination with JFCBS and the Bundeswehr Joint Forces Operations Command. Brigadier General Almantas Leika, the JFCBS Assistant Chief of Staff, visited the training area and explored the event on its first day.
