CWIX 2017 Begins

As NATO’s largest annual interoperability event, more than 1000 engineers, scientists, technicians and operators come together at the Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC) and push the boundaries to solve interoperability challenges by federating people, processes and technology.

During the next two weeks, more than 250 military capabilities will be tested in order to ensure that NATO and Partner Nations can operate together effectively to keep our nations safe.

The Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXploration, eXperimentation and eXamination eXercise, otherwise known as ‘CWIX’, was officially opened by Major General Wilhelm Grün, JFTC Commander, and Commander Holger Grossmann, CWIX Director, on 14 June which marked the start of all testing activities.

Representatives from 26 nations and 88 commands innovate, federate and improve the interoperability of systems until June 29th. Innovative solutions that are tested at CWIX create solutions to NATO’s interoperability challenges and ensures NATO maintains the technological edge to stay ahead of our potential adversaries. Building interoperability of new and existing capabilities enables our forces to work together as the foundation for all joint and multinational operations. Federating our mission networks results in improved strategic awareness of NATO and nations, recognizing that One NATO is stronger than the sum of its parts.

CWIX improves interoperability through intense collaboration, developing capabilities in a shorter period through cooperation, consultation and verification, and therefore improving the Alliance’s military capacity. Thousands of technical tests are planned and will be conducted through the next few weeks. This creates a unique environment for technicians to test, sometimes fail, but always fix and test again; all to improve operational effectiveness and readiness of deployed forces on ‘day zero’ of upcoming NATO or coalition operations.

NATO’s home in North America, Allied Command Transformation, manages the CWIX event as a pillar of the ongoing transformation of the Alliance and its Partners to deter defend the Alliance and project stability.
