The JFTC shield

Description: "A blue shield quartered by the NATO star with a rampant crowned griffon in the second quarter and headed by the text 'JOINT FORCE TRAINING CENTRE', all in silver".

Blazon: "Azure, quartered by a mullet of four rays on an annulet argent, in sinister chief a crowned gryphon rampant of the second, on a chief of the first the text 'JOINT FORCE TRAINING CENTRE' of the second".

The griffin reflects the fact that JFTC is located within the old Baltic province of Pomerania. A combination of a lion's body and an eagle's head and wings, the griffin combines the strength of a lion with the speed of an eagle. Both are qualities that are relevant to NATO's wider security role.
